My Bio
Hi, my name is Matej and I'm an aspiring CG artist from Slovenia. I currently specialize in still photo-realistic 3D renders.

When I started to learn CG in summer 2009 I opted to go the open source way. I wasn't entirely sure about this decision, which it seemed risky to me at the time. Deciding between the expensive but proved proprietary way and between the free & open-source but unknown way, was not easy. More so because you can spend months and years learning software, such as modeling tools or painting programs.

Now when I look back I'm satisfied about my decision as the open-source communities deliver such outstanding stuff and allow me to be creative for free. The least I can do is give them credit, though I try also to help back where and when I can. Though there are some licensed programs in my toolset, I currently mostly use FOSS programs:

- Blender for modeling and compositing
- GIMP for texturing, post-production and compositing
- Yafaray and Octane* for rendering
- Luminance HDR (Qtpfsgui) for tone-mapping
- Inkscape as support drawing tool

Everything of course runs on Linux ;-) (Ubuntu mostly The king is dead, long live Linux Mint!)

* non-FOSS

Favourite TV Shows
Futurama / Family Guy / South Park

PC
Tools of the Trade
Blender, GIMP, Yafaray, Octane, Inkscape, Luminance HDR
Other Interests
CG, programming, mountainbiking, videogames, humor, history, warfare
Yafaray Annual Competition ended in august and now the results are in. The Vespula render won by popular vote, so I must thanks all the people who casted their vote. This is the first time I'm rewarded in a CG competition (any place) and I hope it's not the last. The whole project was created using exclusively opensource software. http://fav.me/d49mmem (apparently no image embedding in journals, for us mere non-premium members :)

Where are the new stuff??!! :)
yea... it's been a while...

I've messed up a bit in the last months (with life in general) and haven't checked DA in a long time. All the 3D work I did was of commercial nature.

But now I'm full speed ahoy, and expect more stuff from me! Thanks for still checking, hope you're doing nice & well :)
Im doing fine! I went to bologna recently I am going to be represented by an agency! (I almost went to slovenia in this small trip!)

With Cghub gone sometime I turn back for DA, but there are some new cg websites around! like artstation and drawcrowd, but I haven't joined them yet

I know how hard it is, you need to save time to personal projects and a personal portfolio, and still have time to have a job to pay your bills!

I saw the flag! that rendering is perfect! keep up the good work!
Thank you for the fave :)
Thanx for faving! It's very appreciated.
Thanks for the :+fav:!
